UN chief deplores overthrow of civilian Mauritanian government
By SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT August 7, 2008 NEW YORK: â€" UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon Wednesday deplored the ouster in a military coup d’état of Mauritanian President Sidi Mohamed Ould Chiekh Abdallahi's government and demanded immediate restoration of constitutional order in the country.
"The Secretary-General deeply regrets the overthrow on 6 August 2008" of President, who won a multi-party election democratic election in June 2007, Ban's spokesperson said in a statement.
