At least 26 people died Wednesday in a road accident in the northern Peruvian province of Lambayeque, when a bus fell more than 100 metres down a ravine, rescue teams said. Rescue teams were still working at the site of the crash and the number of dead could increase. Ten people were injured and had to be take to area hospitals. The bus - carrying around 50 people - was travelling from the jungle cities of Jaen and Bagua to the seaside city of Chiclayo, the provincial capital. The causes of the accident was not immediately known, although survivors noted that there was dense fog at the time of the crash. Bus accidents are not considered rare in Peru. The vehicles are often old, the driving style is rash and many roads are in poor condition.
