India told to repeal AFSPA
Source: SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT August 20, 2008 NEW YORK - A prominent rights watchdog has asked India to repeal an act empowering its security forces “to perpetrate abuses with impunity” that especially affects the disputed state of Jammu and Kashmir.
In a new report, Human Rights Watch says that the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), has become a tool of “state abuse, oppression and discrimination”.
