GAZA CITY (AFP) - At least one person was killed on Friday and three wounded in Israeli air force raids on the edge of Gaza City, medics told AFP. Emergency services spokesman Adham Abu Selmiya named the fatality as 22-year-old Mohammed Enaya and said another person had been injured in the air raid that hit the Zeitun neighbourhood near the border with Israel.
Later, a second strike in nearby Tofah seriously wounded two, medics said. The strikes raised to eight the total number of Gazans killed in the past 24 hours since Israel began a series of retaliatory raids following shooting attacks in the Negev Desert that left eight Israelis dead. Israeli officials have blamed a Gaza-based militant group called the Popular Resistance Committees, although the faction has denied any involvement.
