33 Tamil, 6 soldiers killed in SLanka

The Sri Lankan military says fighting in the embattled northern region has killed 33 ethnic Tamil rebels and six government soldiers. Military spokesman Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara says the latest round of battles took place in the Mannar, Vavuniya, Welioya and Jaffnaareas in northern Sri Lanka throughout Sunday. In the worst fighting, army troops captured six rebel bunkers inVavuniya after a battle that killed 10 rebels and five soldiers, he said. There was no immediate comment from rebels.
