Obama camp unleashes Biden to go after McCain

August 25, 2008

“And not the kind of wisdom you get in Washington, DC, but the kind of wisdom you get when you overcome adversity, tragedy in your life as he has,” he said, observing that Biden commutes daily by train from his home in Delaware. “He’s never lived a day in Washington DC,” Axelrod said on ABC News.

“He understands what’s going on in this economy. He doesn’t believe, as John McCain does, that things are fundamentally sound and we’ve made great progress when people are losing ground all the time.”

Biden, 65, was back in Delaware Sunday as Obama swung through Wisconsin as part of a tour of battleground states leading up to the Democratic nominating convention starting in Denver on Monday.

McCain is expected to unveil his own VP pick at the end of this week just ahead of his convention. “I think Barack Obama did exactly what he said he was going to do. He picked someone who complements him,” Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano said on CNN.

“He picks someone who is of his own mind and will not be a sycophant and picked someone who is knowledgeable in the ways of Washington, because if Barack Obama wants to effect change, part of doing that is having somebody with you that knows the institutions that you are changing,” she said.

Meanwhile, US Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama has a narrow lead over Republican rival John McCain ahead of the Democratic National Convention, which opens on Monday, a new poll showed.

The Washington Post-ABC News survey released Sunday indicated the four-point lead was almost within the margin of error.
