3 killed in suicide attack in Afghanistan

September 26, 2008

A suicide bomber blew himself up Friday in a bazaar in Afghanistan close to the border with Pakistan and killed three people, police said, in an attack similar to dozens by Taliban. The attacker detonated explosives strapped to his body in the Jaji Maydan district bazaar, Khost province police chief General Abdul Qayoom Baqizoi said. "The explosion has taken place in front of shops," he said. "Two civilians and an NDS (National Directorate of Security) worker were killed and five other civilians have been wounded."

The NDS is Afghanistan's intelligence agency. However, Baqizoi said he believed the target of the attack may have been a shopkeeper who had once commanded a militia that had worked with US troops in the area.
