Tiger rebels attack Sri Lankan navy base
August 27, 2008 They said they saw anti-aircraft guns illuminating the night sky as security forces used flashlights to track down suspected Tamil Tiger aircraft over the district of Trincomalee. At least two blasts were heard in the strategic port district where Tamil Tiger rebels have staged several attacks in the past. Military sources said they were checking on reports that the rebels had used light aircraft to attack Trincomalee.
There were no immediate reports of casualties. Separatist Tiger rebels have staged air attacks using light aircraft in the past.
