West slams recognition
August 27, 2008 PARIS (AFP) - Western nations warned Tuesday that Russia’s recognition of the independence of Georgian regions South Ossetia and Abkhazia had ratcheted up tensions across the Caucasus.
US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice called the move “regrettable” while Britain’s Foreign Secretary David Miliband said it “further inflames an already tense situation in the region.”
