WASHINGTON (AFP) - US President Barack Obama said Friday direct dialogue with Tehran would be affected
by events in Iran amid a crackdown on post-election protests, but said multilateral talks will continue. There is no
doubt that any direct dialogue or diplomacy with Iran is going to be affected by the events of the last several
weeks, Obama said after talks here with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
The US President said he did not take seriously a call from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for an
apology over US comments about the Iran elections.
I dont take Ahmadinejads statements seriously about apologies, particularly given the fact that the US has
gone out of its way not to interfere with the election process in Iran, Obama told a White House press
conference. And I am really not concerned about Ahmadinejad apologizing to me.
