UN voices concern over killings in Indian Occupied Kashmir
By SPECIAL CORRESPONDEBNT August 28, 2008 UNITED NATIONS - Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and the U.N. High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) have voiced their concern over the violent clashes between Indian security forces and Kashmir protesters in Indian-administered Kashmir that have led to the killing of nearly 40 civilians.
The UN chief's expression of concern over the deteriorating situation in Kashmir followed a statement issued in Geneva by the United Nations Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
After Ban's Spokesperson Michele Montas read out the OHCHR's statement at the regular briefing, she was asked whether the secretary-general agreed with its contents.
