A powerful new 6.1-magnitude aftershock struck just off the coast of central Chile early Sunday in the wake of a major 8.8-strong earthquake, a US government agency reported. The epicenter of tremor was 35 kilometers (22 miles) underground and 63 kilometers (39 miles) north of the city of Talca, the US Geological Survey said. The quake hit at 8:25 am local time (1625 PST), it said.
