Sanctions next: UK

VIENNA (AFP/Reuters) - Patience is running out over Irans nuclear programme, the US Ambassador said here Friday after the UN atomic watchdog passed a resolution censuring Tehran.
The resolution is not meant to be punitive, the US envoy to the International Atomic Energy Agency, Glyn Davies, added, however.
I hope it provides further impetus on the diplomatic track, he said.
British Prime Minister Gordon Brown said the next stage will have to be more sanctions against Iran if Tehran does not respond to a vote by UN nuclear watchdog governors.
He said such a conclusive vote sent the clearest possible signal to Iran that they should desist from their nuclear plans, that the world knows what they are doing, he told broadcasters in Trinidad and Tobago where he is attending a Commonwealth summit.
Russia on Friday called on Iran to treat seriously a resolution from the UN nuclear agency. We count on Tehran to react with full seriousness to the signal contained in the resolution... and to ensure full cooperation with the agency, the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
