42 killed in Sri Lanka fighting
August 29, 2008 COLOMBO (AFP) - At least 37 Tamil Tiger rebels and five government soldiers were killed in an upsurge of fighting in Sri Lanka’s embattled north, the Defence Ministry said Thursday.
Troops advancing deeper into territory held by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) killed the 37 rebels and wounded another 18 in clashes on Wednesday, the Ministry said in a statement.
It said five soldiers were killed and another 33 wounded.
