October 9, 2009
Supreme Court will hear the review petitions of the PCO judges affected by the apex court’s verdict on imposition of the emergency in the country, today. A 14-member bench of the court headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammed Chaudhry hearing appeals for review on the court’s judgment that declared the emergency and PCO unlawful. According to a press release issued by the apex court, the larger bench will clarify the contempt notices issued to the judges of the higher judiciary on October 05, 2009: Whether the contempt notices be issued only to the high court judges, which had violated the judgment of the seven-member bench and sworn in before declaration of emergency on November 03, 2007; or the notices also be issued to the Supreme Court judges that had violated the decision
