LAHORE - The Lahore High Court chief justice on Monday adjourned till March 26 hearing of a petition challenging possible extradition of 10 arrested Afghan Talibans.
As the court started its proceedings on Monday Deputy Attorney General Amer Rehman requested for more time to submit a report required in the case. He told the court the report of the interior ministry on the matter was yet awaited. On this the chief justice adjourned the further proceedings till March 26. In a petition Defence Human Rights Commissions Chief Khalid Khawaja has challenged possible handing over of top Afghan Taliban Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar and four others to America. The petitioner requested the court to restrain government from handing over the detainees to any other foreign country.
Petitioner Khalid Khawaja included names of Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, Mullah Abdul Salam, Maulvi Kabir, Mullah Muhammad and Ameer Muawiyia.
The recently arrested Talibans are Tayyab Agha, Hakeemuddin-Mahsood, Mullah Tayyab Popalzai, Abdul Qayyum Zakir and Musa.
On March 9, the chief justice had issued notice to the federal government through the deputy attorney general on a CM application.
The chief justice also adjourned the CM application against extradition of another five arrested Taliban leaders saying it will be heard with the main petition. The petitioner further requested the court to bar foreign agencies from interrogating the Afghan detainees and issue directions that only intelligence agencies of Pakistan should conduct interrogation.
Earlier, the chief justice had temporarily restrained the federal as well provincial authorities from handing over the said detainees to any foreign country.
