LAHORE - Senior Punjab Minister Raja Riaz Ahmad has invited political leaders to attend an All Parties Conference (APC) on 'water issue on Thursday (today) at 11:00am at the Punjab Assembly chambers.
According to an official handout, Leader of the Opposition in Punjab Assembly Ch Zaheerud Din, Senior Advisor to the Punjab CM Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, PPPs Punjab President Rana Aftab Ahmad Khan, Farid Paracha of Jamaat-e-Islami, Ahsan Rashid of Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf, Makhdoom Ahmad Mahmood of PML-F, Nawabzada Mansoor Ali Khan of PDP, noted lawyer and human rights activist Asima Jahangir and presidents of Lahore chamber and bar associations have been invited to attend the moot. It is expected that Thursdays APC would come up with positive and constructive proposals to resolve water crisis in the Punjab.
PEF to make functional 1006 schools
The Punjab Education Foundation will restart the 1, 006 dysfunctional public sector schools in the province in collaboration with the non-formal sector. In the pilot phase, 100 such schools will be handed over to the selected partners after finalizing necessary formalities.
According to an official handout, the PEF arranged a brain storming session at a local hotel on Wednesday in this regard in which 11 different NGOs were invited and briefed about the project.
PEF Director CPDP Miss Maleeha Batool briefed the participants about various features of private-public partnership of the Punjab Education Foundation.
She informed that the school buildings of 685 dysfunctional institutions are quite intact and therefore, they can immediately be taken up to start classes.
According to the PEF plan, the NGOs will appoint teachers and other staff to teach the students while the PEF will provide financial assistance and the textbooks to the students.
It may be added here that PEF is already bearing educational expenses of 8 lakh deserving students in the province, for which a sum of Rs 5 billion is being utilized.
Symposium
Artists Association of Punjab in collaboration with Pakistan National Council or the Arts (PNCA) will organize National Symposium at Alhamra here on Friday (tomorrow). Federal Minister for Education Sardar Asef Ahmad Ali will be the Chief Guest. PNCA Director General Tauqeer Nasir will graced the occasion as the Chief Guest while the conference will be presided over by the Chairman Artists Association of Punjab Mian Ijaz-ul-Haq
