NAB created to victimise democratic leadership

LAHORE - Provincial Minister for Prisons, Ch Abdul Ghafoor has said that a commission should be formed to probe into all the murders of political personalities from former Prime Minister Laiqat Ali Khan to Benazir Bhutto.
He said though the UN investigators are investigating into Benazir Buttos murder case but as this murder happened in the limits of Punjab province so it was the prime duty of Inspector General of Punjab police to probe into the matter.
Ch Abdul Ghafoor expressed these views at The Nation Forum here on Thursday. He said as an FIR had been registered against the murder of Benazir Bhutto so government should trace the person behind this cruel act.
He said certain politicians enjoying dual nationalities in Pakistan should be questioned that whether they like to live in Pakistan or abroad as they have all their assets and interests at abroad, they have even their future abroad so they should go abroad rather than living in Pakistan. Politicians possessing Pakistani passport should be allowed to take part in political process in Pakistan, he demanded. National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was creation of former dictator and reason behind its formation was to victimise the leadership of PML-N.
To a question, he said NRO should be seen case to case and beneficiaries of the Ordinance should be prosecuted accordingly.
He said NRO was discussed within his party and it was the unanimous decision of the party leadership. He advocated for the democratic system within the country and said the worst from of democracy was better than dictatorship and PML-N would not play the oppositions role for the sake of opposition rather it would discuss issues and exercise the politics with positive approach.
He quoted the political environment of neighbouring country India and said that only reason behind the better position of India was continuity of democratic process.
The minister said meeting of Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) should be called to sort-out the problems being faced by Muslims Ummah across the World. He was of the view that at present Muslims are being killed everywhere and they should take a collective stance over this critical situation.
He said why the drone attacks were the fate of the Muslims, he was of the opinion that Waziristan operation was due to the policies of former president Gen (r) Musharraf.
Ch Ghafoor said that there must be given a time frame for Waziristan operation and he accused that some foreign elements were involved in bomb blasts and suicide attacks. Our nuclear programme is being criticised by the foreign powers but our army was professional and efficient enough to keep its programme in safe hands.
Talking about the Balochistan issue, he said, it was call of hour to take the Blochi people into confidence. To a question about the prisons conditions, the minister said as per vision of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif we are trying to change the atmosphere of jails across the province.
He said about 50 per cent prisoners in jails were innocent and 15 per cent of these were not even aware of their crime. I have recommended the Ministry of Interior to free the foreigner prisoners to send them to their respective countries and they should complete their rest of the punishment there excluding those involved in spying and Indians, he maintained.
