LAHORE - Senator SM Zafar has said that former federal minister late Mehmood Ali was a pious politician but unfortunately those who replaced him are engaged in framing laws to protect their corruption.
He expressed these views while addressing gathering in connection with third death anniversary of Mehmood Ali at Aiwan-e-Karkunan-e-Tehreek-e-Pakistan held under the aegis of Nazria-e-Pakistan Trust (NPT) on Thursday.
Chairman NPT Majid Nizami, Prof Dr Rafique Ahmad, Pir Syed Muhammad Kabir Ali Shah, Begum Suraiya K H Khursheed, Begum Mehnaz Rafi, Dr MA Soofi, Prof Rafique Alam and Adeeb Javidani.
Paying tributes to Mehmood Ali, Zafar said he devoted all his life for reunification of Bangladesh with Pakistan. “I feel honour to attend such anniversaries which are held in memory of such great leaders,” he remarked.
He said Liaquat Ali Khan after arriving in Pakistan received nothing for the land he had left in India. Similarly, Sardar Abdur Rab Nishter travelled on bicycle and had no asset at the time of his demise.
He said, “Bangladesh is making more progress than Pakistan while our exchequer is being transferred abroad while its currency was also stronger than that of Pakistan.”
He said Mehmood Ali used to say that after the formation of Bangladesh though two governments had been made but even then the nation was one and the people should be ruled by one government.
Majid Nizami said, “Today we are here to recall such a great person who left his native place (Silhat) for the sake of Pakistan, which he considered his homeland.”
