Nothing is being done

By Dr Ijaz Ahsan October 9, 2008

The country is burning. Thousands of our soldiers and civilians have been killed in America's so-called War On Terror. American drones are killing Pakistanis every other day. Jathas of militants are arriving from Afghanistan. They are patrolling the outskirts of Peshawar and warning bankers to arrange donations and stop wearing western dress. Residents of Swat usually complain on televised talk shows that they have been sent back into the Stone Age with no electricity, no water, no gas, and a yearlong curfew, and are forced to eat dry rotis.

British Airways have stopped flights to Pakistan. The American and British embassies have closed down their visa sections, and issued travel advisories to their citizens to avoid going out. The conditions in NWFP are chaotic. The Kohat Tunnel, the link between the northern and southern parts of the province, has been closed for quite some time. And guess who has threatened to seek the help of the NATO forces to open it if the government does not do so quickly? A senior leader of the PPP, the ruling party! Can you beat that?
