Restoration of judiciary

By NAUMAN ASGHAR May 23, 2008

Politics is a dark tunnel in Pakistan and no man in his right senses can take a chance to wade through it. Our politicians regard it as business in which no spadework is required. They make choices but persist in believing that they will not have to pay for it. Such a disorganised and clumsy approach has plunged our country into a political crisis.

As the coalition started its journey, the whole nation was happy and welcomed the coming together of traditionally rival parties - PPP and PML-N. It seemed as a new era had ushered in and nature had turned kind on us after sixty years of agony and pain. But soon this optimism was belied by the ground realities and the country came back to square one. The two coalition partners had failed to build consensus on the fundamental issue of the judges restoration. The leaders of the nation signed the Murree Accord on March 9 and pledged before the nation to reinstate the unconstitutionally deposed judges within thirty days after the formation of the government. As the deadline drew near, the fears and doubts started growing among the public.
