A festering crisis

August 2, 2008

MIAN Nawaz Sharif is apparently not happy with the government's performance, but it is quite reassuring to know that at the same time he has not parted with the positive attitude that has so far defined his party's relationship with its coalition partner, the PPP. His pledge in Lahore on Friday that he would be the last to advocate a break-up with the PPP is commendable indeed. Nevertheless, his warning that soon the masses would take to the streets and show the door to the government if the superior judiciary was not restored to its pre-Emergency status is not to be taken lightly.
