Ginners' strike
August 4, 2008 THE 1200 cotton-ginning factories of the Punjab and Sindh closed down on 1st August on the call of the Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association. The strike is to continue for an indefinite period of time. That is bad news. The textile sector is the mainstay of our export profile. As it is, our exports are sputtering, not in the least because of a less than stellar performance by the textile sector. Yet another blow to our textiles in the form of the absence of ginning facilities would be disastrous.
