US targets Pakistan

A US intelligence think tank, Stratfor, has reaffirmed what many in Pakistan have been forecasting for some time now: that the US will eventually attempt to undertake strikes on the ground with Special Forces in Pakistan. The pretext will be Al-Qaeda since according to Stratfor the bulk of its leadership is now in Pakistan - despite a total lack of intelligence to prove this. The claim is that Pakistan is at "break point" with 'jihadists' and the Americans both already operating on its soil. The story comes in the wake of news that Americans in Pakistan are effectively operating outside of the law of the land and are not prepared to follow any diplomatic or other national norm as they go about their business - including not bothering to get clearance from the Foreign Office as they move from one city to another.
Officials in Pakistan also continue to express concern over the US troop surge in Afghanistan which they feel will not serve any meaningful purpose but will push more militants into Pakistan, thereby expanding the war further across the border into Pakistan's FATA area. Locals of the area as well as in cities like Peshawar have expressed fear and concern over this American move. However, since it now appears that the US intends to shift the centre of gravity of the war from Afghanistan to Pakistan, the Stratfor forecast should be taken seriously by the Pakistan government. It is time it arrested this drift towards a war in FATA between the US troops and militants, with Pakistan caught in the middle. The alliance with the US needs to be reassessed and the Pakistan military should make it clear to the US that it can take care of its own problem if the US stays out and does not exacerbate it. As for Pakistan's assumed dependency on the US to help it maintain a balance with India, which Stratfor believes compels us to give in to American demands, this is absurd. In fact, the US is aggravating the imbalance between Pakistan and India and actively encouraging the Indian leadership to up the hostile ante against Pakistan - as witnessed most recently in the statement of the Indian Army Chief. Stratfor's assertion that 'jihadi' elements in Pakistan are seeking to start a war between Pakistan and India is also way off the mark because it is the Indian political and military leadership that is increasing the vitriol against Pakistan by talking of the viability of war. To make matters worse, it is also stating openly that the US will aid it in such a war. So, rather rapidly, US aggressive designs towards Pakistan are becoming increasingly covert. But when will Pakistan take note?
