All-weather friend

October 11, 2008

Meanwhile one cannot help but notice some developments that have of late been hurting the relationship. For instance the Chinese are concerned about some militant networks making inroads into the bordering province of Sinkiang and creating trouble there. Then some Chinese firms working in Pakistan have suffered because of the poor law and order situation. The tragic incident of killing of Chinese engineers is a case in point. One hopes that the government would give the matter serious thought and see to it that the Chinese no longer face any constraint in extending their help and cooperation to us.

Squashed up between a hostile India on the east and a US monitored Afghanistan to the west, Pakistan has in China a genuine source of comfort. It has helped us in scores of projects like the Karakoram Highway, Gwadar deep-sea port, JF-17 thunder aircraft and many others. To help the country in its energy crisis it is building a new nuclear power plant on the model of Chashma plant proving yet again that it is a time-tested friend.
