A poor show

November 17, 2008

ONE cannot help but take PPP Federal Minister Syed Khurshid Shah to task at the way he choose to celebrate his son's wedding. One would not expect a minister in the federal cabinet to be indulging in power theft. He is reportedly used a kunda on the street supply lines to avoid incurring expense. As a result, not only the place of wedding, but also the adjoining streets and area, remained lit up, at a time when the nation was facing a severe shortage of electricity and most towns remain under persistent spells of load shedding. 'This had to be done" came his nonchalant reply when asked by media to comment on the electricity theft. Besides, the main road leading to his house being blocked for two days, so were other roads in the area temporarily, to facilitate the VIP movement, causing a lot of inconvenience to the residents. The example would only be reinforcing the popular view that the politicians in the country were not bothered much about observing the rule of law. While the PM has reportedly taken notice of the illegal act, hopefully it would be followed by prompt and severe action.
