Questions for PPP
June 1, 2008 It has been reported in the press that in a royal show of magnanimity, Asif Zardari has directed the law ministry to pay the deposed judges their salaries for the last five months. Can any of the PPP media managers, who have been writing articles in the press in a fruitless attempt to arrest the PPP's free-falling popularity, answer the following questions?
One, isn't payment of salaries to the deposed judges an acceptance of the fact that, constitutionally, they are still judges. Then why does the PPP government continue to stop them from performing their constitutional duties? Two, in what capacity is Mr Zardari issuing these official orders? -SALEH USMANI, Jakarta, Indonesia, via e-mail, May 17.
