Lesson of Swat
October 7, 2008 This is with reference to 9/11 of Pakistan in which the terrorists blew up Marriott Hotel, Islamabad, killing hundreds of innocent people. It is an eye-opener for the people. It is time the Pakistani nation understood the threat and took a joint stand on the issue of terrorism. We should learn a lesson from the people of Swat who decided to get rid of Taliban and, in fact, helped the Army in annihilating them during the December 2007 campaign.
I know of quite a few political leaders, including Nawaz Sharif, Imran Khan, Qazi Hussain Ahmad, Hamid Gul and Maulana Fazalur Rehman etc who have confused the nation on this issue for their petty, political gains, giving advantage to the terrorists in the process.
People should stop listening to these leaders and get united against terrorism before the fire reaches our homes. -DR FAREEHA KHANUM, Mardan, via e-mail, September 21.
