The former President of Pakistan SC Bar Association Aitzaz Ahsan has often said that independent judiciary can only be established by azad manash judges. The benefits of independent judiciary came to light when the full bench of Supreme Court comprising these independent judges thwarted the sale of Pakistan Steel Mill at a throwaway price of Rs 22 billion. The same Pakistan Steel has earned an annual profit of Rs.24 billion this year. This amount is almost equal to US$300 million that the World Bank has refused to give Pakistan. So the nation salutes the independent judges of Apex Court that saved the goose that lays a golden egg every year.

The people who say that how could an independent judiciary play a role in the economic progress of a country, therefore, ought to be silenced by the above example. The latest offer of a Senate ticket to deposed CJ Chaudhry by President Zardari is a cruel joke on the nation as the deposed judge is worth several times his weight in gold. His reinstatement is a part of the unfinished agenda of restoration of democracy in the country of which President Zardari is the prime beneficiary.
