A familiar script

Decade after decade, we have watched the same drama being enacted. This is what the usual story of our economy is; we start with loot and plunder in which the entire ruling elite and various mafias act in cahoots to rob the treasury blind. A near state of bankruptcy follows with the final benevolent rescue coming from the IMF and other international donors. While this has gone on, the real sufferers for the last three generations have been our people who have been denied even the basics of human development. As if this was not enough, now even the good, old roti they used to eat by the loaves has been snatched from their hands. And yet, there is no talk of accountability of our rulers.
