Hopes dying
November 29, 2008 Two days ago, three women handed over eight children to the Edhi Foundation. Incidents like these are on the rise as the ogre of poverty pushes an increasing majority to the wall. People have seemingly lost all hope. Some months ago, a woman had thrown herself before a speeding train along with her children. The rulers seem to have lost all sense of empathy for fellow beings as they revel in their own self-proclaimed glories. Mr Zardari considers himself to be a seasoned player of politics but is totally unaware of the agonies of his subjects, the poor masses. We can only hope against hope. -RIZWAN ASGHAR, Lahore, via e-mail, November 20.
