ISLAMABAD - Pointing out food, energy crises and poor law and order situation in the country, PML-Q has termed Year 2009 as a year of failures for the ruling coalition as it had totally failed in materialising its commitments made to the people.
During a press conference here on Thursday, Deputy Secretary Information of PML-Q, Ghulam Mustafa Malik, issued facts sheet on the performance of the government in the year 2009. He said that the people observed Year 2009 as a year of desperation as none of the issues of the common man were resolved, rather new problems emerged for them. Corruption remained number one problem for the country and the people had to suffer the most while the ruling elite was reluctant to redress their issues, Malik added.
After wheat flour shortage, the poor had to face sugar, energy and gas crises which worsened with each passing day. Price hike further escalated while businessmen had to face gas loadshedding which got the business down, he said.
He said that corruption had increased in the country and different media reports regarding corruption in PIA, Steel Mills, rental power projects, EOBI and other departments had come to surface while Amnesty International termed Pakistan as 42nd most corrupt country.
Criticising Minister for Water and Power Raja Pervez Ashraf, Mustafa Malik said that he had claimed to eliminate loadshedding by 2009, however, neither loadshedding saw any decline nor the minister resigned as he had promised.
He said that the corrupt practices of the ministers were highlighted in the media and the PPP leadership tried to take shield of NRO to evade accountability. However, he added that free media pressurised parliament to reject NRO which was later also declared null and void by the independent judiciary.
He said that the foreign policy of the country was also a bog flop and even friendly countries like China and Iran criticised Pakistan for its wrong policies while Indian threats were also shameful on which Pakistan government kept mum and its attitude was apologetic.
Now we fear more crisis as the government is taking on the free media and judiciary after creating rifts with establishment. We think this government is on a suicide mission and fears more crisis in future, he added.
On the other hand, he added, the PML-Q leadership was providing an alternative leadership to the people of Pakistan and its President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Secretary General Mushahid Hussain Sayed conducted countrywide visits and gave the people a ray of hope. He said that the party has been reorganised and its all wings have been made functional to redress woos of the common man.
