Action to ensure govt’s writ: Farzana

Source: OUR STAFF REPORTER July 1, 2008

LAHORE - Defending military action in parts of NWFP, the Pakistan People’s Party MNA and party’s Punjab Secretary Information, Farzana Raja on Monday said that it was a “targeted action” being carried in “selected areas” to establish government’s writ and to maintain peace there.

Addressing “Meet-the-Press” programme at the Lahore Press Club, Farzana Raja refuted the impression that it was a full-fledged military operation launched in the province against the militants.

“It is an action, not operation, being carried out only in selected areas to restore government’s writ,” she maintained, adding that the government had the cooperation of people of the area who wanted to get rid of the militants.

She said that apart from taking security measures to curb militancy in the tribal belt, the PPP government would soon implement development package in FATA to improve infrastructure and to provide health and education facilities to the people in the region.

Replying to a question, she rejected the notion that the PPP had become a B-team of President Pervez Musharraf like the PML-Q. The PPP government, she said, had undone many actions taken by President Musharraf in the last eight years.
