ISLAMABAD - Inayat Bibi, an over-60 year old widow, whose household belongings were thrown out by the Estate Office the other day, was dragging her luggage back with trembling hands praying for the court that restored her possession on the house.
While TheNation team visited her, she was still terrified of the hooliganism of the Estate officer. He has gone, threatening me and my sons of dire consequences, she told TheNation referring to the threats giving by the Estate Officer Muhammad Ali Shah.
After the death of her husband, she was permitted to live in the house on humanitarian grounds. With tears rolling down her cheeks and choked voice the old lady described her ordeal.
After the death of my husband in 2002, I tried hard to accommodate one of my sons at his place in the Ministry of Religious Affairs, but all in vain and her two sons are still unemployed.
The widow made an appeal to the government that one of her sons should be given a job in the government sector as her husband served the government throughout his life in the Ministry of Religious Affairs.
She also alleged that two suspended officers of the Estate Office, including Chief Inspector Anwar Baig and Sub Inspector Sarfraz, were also part of this invasion, which was totally illegal.
She urged the government to dismiss the corrupt Estate Officer Muhammad Ali Shah and his allies as he is threatening innocent people all the time and trying to accommodate his own acquaintances in their place.
The residents of the area alleged that the houses are being allotted in this sector on the basis of ethnicity and demanded that the government should conduct an inquiry into the recent allotments.
Accordign to Inayat Bibi, on Tuesday around 9 am more then 40 officials of the Estate Office invaded her house and started throwing the luggage outside on the road. They even ignored her pleas to stop till the arrival of the male members of the house.
Officials of the Estate Office entered the house forcefully breaking the doors and windows. They misbehaved with the women and terrorised them. It sounded to us that it was end of the world but God has saved us. We cannot forget those terrible moments.
We had no choice but to spend the night outside in the open but our neighbours accommodated some of our luggage and family members as well. She was of the view that in this country only those who have power can survive.
We are poor people so we cannot bribe them according to their demands as the Estate Officers openly demand Rs. 100,000 to get the possession of the house, Inayat Bibi added.
One of the neighbours remarked that the Estate Officer, Muhammad Ali Shah, has done all this to accommodate his real sister in-law hailing from D.I. Khan who has been transferred here recently.
