ISLAMABAD - In a rare show of solidarity the political leadership of the country was participating in the All Parties Conference on national security called by Prime Minister Secretariat to review the security situation in the backdrop of the scars inflicted on the Indo-Pak relations by the Mumbai terrorist attacks.
Almost all the political parties in the country had confirmed their participation in the meeting, which would be held under the chair of Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani at PM Secretariat on Tuesday (today) at 2.00 pm.
The sources in the Prime Minister Secretariat disclosed to The Nation that almost all the heads of main political parties had confirmed their participation in the meeting which would be discussing the sole issue of national security emanated from the series of terrorist attacks in Mumbai and the irrational and dogmatic implication of Pakistan in it by the Indian authorities.
These sources further disclosed that the APC would only take up this issue and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gliani would take the political leadership whether they are part of the Parliament or not, into confidence over the developments in the follow-up of the Mumbai attacks.
These sources further said that after getting the input of the national political leadership the government would formulate its policy to tackle with the situation and to respond to the allegations coming from across the border.
Meanwhile, to spruce up the preparations for the APC Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani called on President Asif Ali Zardari at Awan-i-Sadr and both the leaders went into long post-dinner session.
The sources said that some Cabinet members were also present during the meeting but both the leaders also had one-on-one meeting in which the government’s stand on the issue was discussed, which would be placed before the national leadership on Tuesday’s APC.
These sources further said that during the meeting President and PM had expressed their satisfaction at the positive response of the political leadership of the country.
