ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz), the major Opposition party in the National Assembly Monday said it would extend unconditional support to the government in defusing tension with India and hoped that a greater national consensus would emerge from the APC meeting scheduled today.
“We will extend full support to the government because this is a foremost serious challenge we as a nation are facing today”, Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali told a press conference after a PML-N delegation led by him held a meeting with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani here on Monday. The delegation also included Ahsan Iqbal and Sardar Mehtab Abbasi.
He said a loud and clear message should go to the other side of the border that the people and the government of Pakistan wanted peace not only in their country, but also in the region and the world at large.
He stressed the need for understanding the dynamics of the situation and said it was not merely a matter of blasts in Mumbai but that the tension between the two nuclear-armed States can put the future of the region at stake.
He said the Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) would attend the conference on national security convened by Prime Minister Gilani. He said Shahbaz Sharif, Nawaz Sharif and he himself would represent the party at the meeting convened with the aim to evolve a national strategy on the issue of mounting tension with India.
