ISLAMABAD (APP) - Information Secretary of PML-N Ahsan Iqbal on Friday outlined the priorities of the party for 2010, reiterating its commitment to work for implementation of Charter of Democracy (CoD).
Future of Pakistan is linked with strong and stable democratic institutions and PML-N would play its due role to achieve the task, he said addressing a news conference here at the partys central secretariat.
Giving the partys roadmap, he said PML-N would continue its struggle for early repealing of the 17th Amendment and full implementation of CoD. He underlined the need for setting up of an independent accountability bureau to ensure corruption free society.
Ahsan Iqbal said political parties had agreed in the CoD to end political victimisation of politicians for which such accountability bureau was needed. Only political will is required to evolve a transparent mechanism of accountability, he added.
He was of the view that independent bureau would ensure accountability of all without any discrimination.
The PML-N leader urged the government to implement Supreme Courts decision on National Reconciliation Ordinance in letter and spirit. Ahsan Iqbal said PML-N would not compromise on independence of judiciary and its dignity.
He demanded of the government to withdraw the recent increase in power and gas tariff as it would directly affect the poor segment of society.
He declared 2010 as the year of PML-Ns reorganisation, adding the party would be re-organised at tehsil and district levels throughout the country.
He said entire process of partys membership and elections would be completed by March, while PML-N would hold a party convention on March 23 in which Mian Nawaz Sharif would make an important announcement.
He claimed that PML-N is a popular political party in the country and would safeguard national interest at any cost. He criticised former president Pervez Musharraf for annulling the Vision-2010 Programme initiated by the PML-N government and held him responsible for the prevailing state of national economy.
To a question, Ahsan Iqbal demanded of the government to hold a judicial inquiry into the Karachi incident taking place on 10th of Muharram.
