US condemns bombing on Pakistani volleyball crowd
January 2, 2010
The United States strongly condemned Friday’s deadly suicide bombing on a volleyball match crowd in Lakki Marwat, with Secretary of State Hillary Clinton pledging American support for Pakistanis’ efforts to get rid of violent extremism.“The United States strongly condemns today’s terrorist attack on civilians in Pakistan, and we offer our condolences to the families of the victims and all the people of Pakistan,” Clinton said in a statement.
She spoke as death toll from the terrorist attack reportedly crossed 90 after a man rammed an explosvives-packed vehicle into a field where sports fans were watching a local volleyball contest.
In her statement, Clinton noted that the “Pakistani people have seen terrorists target schools, markets, mosques, and now a volleyball game.”
“The United States will continue to stand with the people of Pakistan in their efforts to chart their own future free from fear and intimidation, and will support their efforts to combat violent extremism and bolster democracy,” she stated.
