Nuclear deal puts India in blind trap: BJP

October 2, 2008

BJP on Thursday said India has entered into a blind trap and finally acceded to the nuclear non-proliferation regime with the Indo-US nuclear deal. "The government has gone for a blind trap knowingly and can't get out of it. We have acceded to the nuclear non-proliferation regime with the Indo-US nuclear deal," BJP spokesperson Rajiv Pratap Ruddy said.  "The deal has been done at the cost of the country's sovereignty and nuclear independence. It's a time to worry but the Congress bosses are going tom-tom on their sense of pseudo achievement," he added. The saffron party alleged that only history will tell the consequences of the deal and its "negative impact" on our sovereignty. "By this deal, India has abrogated its rights in perpetuity. Only history will tell its dangerous influence on our sovereignty." During 38 months of negotiation, the Prime Minister could not clarify even once about the deal's influence on our nuclear test, while the American side has been amply clear that any test after the deal would be a big no, he added.
