Shujaat urges MPs to oppose Ord

ISLAMABAD PML-Q President Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain Monday said that tyre puncture would
not be an excuse for parliamentarians to come to National Assembly for opposing NRO.
Talking to media persons after meeting the partys parliamentarians, Ch Shujaat Hussain said that
his party would completely oppose NRO in and outside the Parliament. He added that every step
would be taken against the NRO if PPP succeeded in getting it through from the House. He urged
every parliamentarian to vote against it above his/her political affiliation.
Shujaat stated that Maulana Fazlur Rehman had informed him that his party would abstain from the
NRO voting process. However, he said that there was no need to call an all parties conference, as
there was no second opinion on the NRO.
He cautioned that the government might try to move NRO surprisingly. He informed that the PML-Q
had raised this issue in the business advisory meeting asking the treasury not to do so.
Former president Farooq Leghari said that he had opposed NRO and then prime minister Shaukat
Aziz could do nothing worse than to approve it. He said that this was a great opportunity for the
incumbent Parliament to restore its sovereignty as it was fast becoming impotent. He added that
even Prime Minister Gilani would have to decide whether or not to vote for the NRO.
He suggested that the Kerry-Lugar Act (KLA) and NRO should be finalised in a referendum. He said
that the KLA was dangerous for the countrys nuclear programme and there were some 'hidden
clauses in the law, which put the sovereignty of the country into question.
He also criticised the statement of US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton regarding the alleged
presence of Mullah Umar and others Afghan Taliban in Pakistan and said if the US had concrete
information, it should share the intelligence reports with Pakistan to nab the wanted people.
