Nawaz willing to become prime minister again

Published: July 04, 2009

LONDON (Online) - Former premier and Quaid Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N) Mian Nawaz Sharif has asked former president Gen (r) Pervez Musharraf to come back and face charges against him in Pakistan, adding that the agreement between PPP and his party is now just a piece of paper and nothing else.
He said that the govt should honour pledges, which it had made with the nation.
He said this while talking to media men after meeting with party workers here on Friday.
Government should repeal 17th Amendment as we want to cooperate with the govt but it has to come on the right track. We are collaborating with govt to steer country out of crisis, Nawaz added.
Answering to a question, he said, the killer of late former Chief Minister Balochistan Nawab Akbar Bugti could have been punished if govt ensured implementation on Charter of Democracy.
Judiciary can decide the fate of Former President Gen. (Retd) Pervez Musharraf, he said.
The nation and lawyers played a great role for independence of judiciary. Judiciary is free to take decision and we can build pressure on judiciary now, he added.
He went on to say efforts were made to declare him ineligible.
The govt has still not changed the policies, which were left by former President who is responsible for current country’s situation, he added.
When asked about statement of Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik about presence of Taliban in Southern Punjab, he refuted his claim saying how he can tell the exact number of terrorists in Southern Punjab.
