Gun battles leave 30 militants dead in Mohmand Agency
Dozens of militants armed with assault rifles attacked a security checkpoint in Mohmand Tribal Agency, sparking a gunbattle that left 30 insurgents and one soldier dead, according to Frontier Constabulary officials
The battle occurred overnight in the Chamarkand area of the Mohmand tribal region near the Afghan border, said FC.
About 200 militants attacked a security checkpost, killing one soldier and wounding four, a local government official was quoted as saying by media reports. The terrorists were killed when troops responded to the attack, he said.
FC officials also told that one of their soldiers also died and four were wounded in the overnight gun battle in Chamarkand area of the Mohmand region near the Afghan border.
The attack happened not far from the Bajur region where the military this week announced it had cleared the one-time the militant stronghold after a successful operation.
It was unclear if the militants involved in the checkpoint attack came from Bajur.
