PESH AWAR In the wake of the recent incursion of NATO forces into the territory of Pakistan, NATO supply remained suspended for the fourth consecutive day via Torkham border on Sunday. The NATO forces had violated Pakistans airspace and in the latest incident, the forces had attacked a FC check post in Kurram Agency, martyring three FC men and injuring three others. In reaction, Pakistan had to stop supply for NATO forces stationed in Afghanistan via Torkham checkpoint in Khyber Agency. The blockade via Torkham border of the Khyber Agency, a route mainly used for NATO supplies from Pakistan, was ordered after the constant violation of Pakistans airspace by NATO forces that also attacked an FC check post, killing three personnel and injuring three others. Due to blockage of the supplies, long queues of trucks and oil tankers are waiting at Torkham border for restarting their journey. Sources informed that the long queues were creating many problems, especially traffic jams as hundreds of NATO supply containers have been parked on the roadside. It is worth mentioning here that Torkham checkpoint between Pakistan and Afghanistan is the main NATO supply route into Afghanistan, through which supply was ensured for more than 152,000 US and NATO forces stationed in Afghanistan. Agencies add: Pakistan will only reopen a supply route for coalition troops in Afghanistan once public anger over NATO incursions eases and security improves, the Foreign Ministry Spokesman said on Sunday. Militants on Saturday threatened more attacks on tankers carrying fuel to Afghanistan through Pakistani routes to avenge the incursions, after setting fire to three dozen of the vehicles. Unless the reaction cools down and we make sure that the supply line is secured, we cannot reopen it, Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Basit said. Its just because of security reasons. Theres no timeframe. I think it should be done soon. Angered by repeated incursions by NATO helicopters over the past week, Pakistan blocked a supply route for NATO troops in Afghanistan after one such strike killed three Pakistani soldiers on Thursday in the northwestern Kurram region. We will review the position when the security situation is normalised, an official said, adding that efforts were continuing to resolve the problem through negotiations. Queues of more than 200 trucks and oil tankers have formed at the border as they wait to deliver supplies to the 152,000 foreign troops fighting in Afghanistan. We are waiting for clearance from the customs authorities, a driver at the border told AFP.
