Another polio case detected in Karachi
By SYED JAFAR ASKARI August 5, 2008 The thirteen-month-old boy, affected with the polio virus, was hospitalised on 3 July, but on 8 July, Dr Mazhar Khamisani, the project director for Sindh Expanded Programme on Immunisation (EPI), said. He added “The report about the detection of the new polio case in Karachi is not correct because the said case was confirmed positive. The National Institute of Health (NIH), Islamabad, has not released the report of the case, while the stool sample of the said boy had been sent to the NIH on 7th July. A total of 10 polio cases have so far been officially reported in Sindh.”
It is worth mentioning that maximum numbers of polio cases have been reported in Sindh as 12 out of the total 18 polio cases have only been reported in Sindh unofficially. Around 5 cases in NWFP and 2 cases have been reported in Balochistan so far.
