ISLAMABAD - Supreme Court on Thursday finally came to rescue the daughter of its Chief Justice when it stopped the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Education from probing into the award of 21 additional marks to Farah Hameed Dogar.
The National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Education has been stopped from looking into the controversy under a stay order issued by a single-bench of apex court comprising Justice Zawar Hussain Jaffery here yesterday minutes before the end of court timings.
Earlier in the day, Chief Justice Islamabad High Court Sardar Muhammad Aslam had declined a request for a stay order against the NA Committee with the observation that the Parliament was supreme and could not be stopped from probing an issue.
However, later in the day, the apex court issued the stay order against the NA proceedings after hearing a petition filed by former Chairman, Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) Commodore (R) Shamshad Ahmed through Raja Abdul Rehman Advocate.
Talking to media persons after the hearing, former Deputy Attorney General (DAG) Raja Abdul Rehman said Justice Syed Zawwar Hussain Jaffery heard the case in his chamber and issued the stay order.
The court has adjourned the hearing of issue for an indefinite period after issuing the stay order, Raja further said.
