Apex court takes suo moto notice
By Assad Hameed July 5, 2008 ISLAMABAD - Chief Justice of Supreme Court of Pakistan Abdul Hameed Dogar Friday took suo moto notice on the government move to commute the death sentence of over seven thousand prisoners into life imprisonment.
Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had announced the relief for condemned prisoners on June 21st while observing the birthday of Benazir Bhutto, the slain leader of the ruling Pakistan People’s Party, while the federal cabinet which met in Karachi Wednesday, also approved the decision.
