ISLAMABAD Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani Wednesday made it loud and clear that the Government would not table NRO in the Parliament and would let the matter settled by the court of law.
He was talking to Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif ahead of the chief ministers meeting (called by the PM) to have their input on law and order situation in the four provinces and devise strategy to counter the recent wave of terrorism. Premier Gilani assured Shahbaz that the government would not take any illegal or unconstitutional step and would not bring NRO before the Parliament.
According to the sources, both the leaders also discussed the overall political situation in the country with special reference to the situation that had emerged after the governments attempt to get the controversial ordinance passed from the Parliament.
Later, in a meeting with all the four chief ministers, Prime Minister Gilani made it clear that the Centre as well as all the four provinces must work together for the elimination of terrorism and other challenges. Overall political situation, challenges faced by the masses, supply of daily commodities, NFC Award and other issues were also discussed in depth during the meeting, the sources privy to the deliberations of the meeting informed.
The PM during the meeting directed to take efficient measures on priority basis to ensure smooth supply of daily commodities. He said that strict action would be taken against hoarders, while artificial shortage of sugar would not be tolerated at any cost.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress being made by the NFC Award and the Parliamentary Committee on Constitutional Reforms, Premier Gilani said that they were taking the issues seriously and would come up to the expectations of the masses.
The country is passing through difficult and thorny circumstances, he said, adding his democratic government was taking down to earth steps to cope with the menace of terrorism. The chief ministers informed the Prime Minister about the development projects and law and order situation in the province, adding they were taking necessary steps for the progress and prosperity of their respective provinces.
