Military to support anti-Taliban lashkars

ISLAMABAD - Expressing his firm commitment to continue fighting terrorism till return of peace, President Asif Ali Zardari said Saturday that nation could root out terrorism if it showed unity and strength.
The President urged the people to forge unity against terrorism and fight it to save their country. He said this while talking to Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, Awami National Party (ANP) President Asfandyar Wali and Chief of the Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani in a meeting here at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
They called on him to discuss the overall security situation of the country with special focus on tribal areas and North West Frontier Province. Earlier to this meeting, the Army Chief also separately met the President. Later on, the PM and ANP Chief joined them.
The meeting discussed law and order situation in the country, particularly, in the troubled tribal regions and NWFP. The meeting resolved to devise a comprehensive strategy to fiight terrorism and extremism.
