LONDON - PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will not attend the PPP convention being held in Birmingham tomorrow.
In a statement issued here by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari himself, he said: I felt it was necessary to issue a statement to counter some inaccurate information that has recently been reported. It has been stated that I am going to launch my political career this Saturday in Birmingham. This is not true. In fact, I will not even be attending the event and instead I will be opening a donation point at the Pakistani High Commission in London for victims of the terrible floods which have ravaged northern Pakistan.
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari while telling his future plans said that he intends to continue his education both academic and political. He is currently looking into the possibilities of studying law, just as his grandfather Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto did. I feel that an understanding of law and an appreciation for the rule of law is important for any politician seeking to strengthen democracy in Pakistan, Bilawal Zardari added.
The PPP Chairman said that he has been inundated with requests from the British media for interviews. But following my mothers assassination, the press had kindly agreed to allow me to continue with his education without being disturbed.
Bilawal said: I hope this courtesy will be extended until I complete my further education as well. I do look forward to working with the media, the international community and most importantly the people of Pakistan in the future to achieve our shared goals of strengthening democracy in Pakistan and combating the forces of extremism that robbed me of my mother and threaten the world today. It is worth mentioning here that President Zardari will be the chief guest at the PPP convention in Birmingham.
The sources said that PPP took decision not to launch political career of Bilawal Bhutto Zaradri due to severe criticism launched by the media and politicians that in tough circumstance, President Zardari has left for UK to launch political career of his son.
It is also relevant to mention here that press statement has been issued by Bilawal Bhutto Zardari himself carrying his signatures and not by any media office of PPP.
Earlier AFP reported: The son of Benazir Bhutto and President Asif Ali Zardari is expected to make his first speech Saturday since leaving university in Britain, fuelling talk he is stepping up his political career.
