FOUR soldiers were killed while two others received severe injuries in a landmine explosion in South Waziristan Agency on Friday, reported BBC.
A convoy of security forces was heading towards Spankai Raghzai in South Waziristan from Jandola, located in semi-tribal area of FR Tank, when one of the vehicles struck a landmine near Tek Azam Paket resulting in human loss and destruction of the vehicle while causing partial damage to some others too. Local residents say Tank-Dera Ismail Khan Road linking South Waziristan with other parts of the country is still closed, forcing people to use difficult mountainous terrains for reaching two district headquarters in the settled area.
It is worth recalling that situation in South Waziristan is very tense for the last four weeks. Contingents of security forces along with tanks had entered the tribal agency to start offensive against Baitullah Mehsud, chief of the banned outfit Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
